Involute gear profile error detector
Types of gear:
1. spur gear
2. helical gear
3. beval gear
4. rack and pinion
5. worm and worm wheel
The components that are used in our projects to fabricate the involute profile checkers were as follows:
1. base plate
2. basic circle disc
3. mandrill
4. floats
5. tool post
6. housing
7. stylus
8. spring
9. shaft
10. bearing stud
11. ball bearing
12. stud
13.actuating rod
14. shaft brush
15. dial indicator
16. fasteners
Note: since this is involute tester the parts offered in this project are surface grounded for precise testing.
Construction of the machine:
Basically our machine is all involute tester with are individual base circle disc. to begin with we started with the base plate, which is a channel type plat form over which all the components are mounted.
Float's mechanism:
The float is a rectangular plate with V-grooves cut on it. it has a tool mounted over it. high quality steel balls are provided for oscillation which can be retained back with the help of springs. there are three mechanism carried out in this float for the prupose of measuring. the various methods are by,
1. Manual method for all teeth:
Here, the mounted component is rotated manually, when this is roated, since the stylus is made to touch the component, the deflection may be varied in the dial with the help of oscillation in the float. every single oscillation can be retained with the help of spring.
2. Pulling the actuating rod:
For viewing the profile of the particular teeth the actuating rod can be pulled and the deflection in the dial can be viewed. when the actuating rod is pulled the component starts rotating this make the deflection in the micron dial.
Working principle:
1. the components to be tested is taken and mounted on the base circle and clamped to its top with the help of the cover bush.
2. then the shaft is screwed to hold the base circle disc in position and then the strip is tightened such that there is no shake in the base circle disc.
3. now the stylus is made to touch the profile of the component.
4. the dial indicator is made to touch on the flat because when the stylus reads an error in profile may lead to a deflection in the micro dial. say, when there is an error in machining due to error, there will be deflection during rotation . this shows the deflection in the dial.
5. now the stylus is made to touch the profile it is pushed back when the pushing operation occurs the floats starts working.
6. this movement causes the deflection in dial.
7. the dial is held in position such that every single movement of the float should be viewed though the dial.
8. the deflection in the dial shows the amout of error is the profile.
9. thus the error is any kind of circular components or the gears and the gear depth can also be found out using this "Involute Gear Profile Errors".
