Abstract ::

As the indicates the Piece Rate Management System deals with the employees piece rate related activities. This project is an Mis package designed to give the chairman and other senior officers of chennai port trust(CHPT) up to date information on the working of the port. Several ship from different countries, bearing various types of cargo, visit the port every year. In port, usage ships are called as ?Vessels? and the platforms that are used to anchor the ships for loading and offloading the cargo are called ?berths?. In Chennai Port Trust 26 berths are engaged. This project records data regarding Piece rate operations in a port. Once the vessel enters the outer anchorage a message is given to the reporting station. Then based on the availability of the berth, cargo and the size of the vessel berth is decided. The vessel stay in the port loading and offloading process carried out. Piece Rate Management System handles wage payment and incentives to workers. Initially the gang of Mazdoors are posted to a particular vessel for a particular shift. Each gang consists of thirteen candidates. If there is any deficiency in a gang, Mazdoors are posted form another gang. Mazdoors handle loading and offloading of cargo. Work allocation for a gang will be done at one place and an entry will be made there and when they land the place of work another entry will be made. If both the entry doesn?t tally then the Mazdoors come under the category of missing. Missing Mazdoors can be classified in to three category missing, injured and sick. The total time for which the mazdoors are missing for a particular shift is recorded. If the missing mazdoors come under the category of sick or injured they will be given piece rate for the particular shift without deduction. But for mazdoors who come under the category of missing proportionate piece rate for the hours worked will be given.
